Going in to the test shoot I knew that I wanted to produce images which where different to what we are used to seeing in todays commercial environment. My plan was to take only head shoots on a wide aperture possibly as little as f1.8 as i felt this was a good way of trying to create the connection I was looking for in the images. I used a two light setup, one florescent light to the rear and one tungsten flash unit at the front next to me with a grey background.
As this was the first session in the studio and I have dogs of my own I wanted to take this opportunity to see how they would reacted when in a new environment, finding out what difficulties I would come up against when photographing other peoples dogs and how to combat these issues.
When photographing Rocky keeping his attention on me long enough to get a clear shot was a challenge, his attention span in general and lots of moving a round restricted various lighting setups I had in mind. Getting a straight on shot of him as i had intended was also difficult as he was generally interested in the treats but if you moved away from him with them he would automatically follow you. As you can see from the the larger images some are slightly out of focus and others are cropped to tightly due to this.
